How to Install the Free WinRAR Software

WinRAR is a utility for Windows that allows users to decompress RAR and ZIP compressed files. The RAR and ZIP formats allow multiple files to be contained in a single file, reducing the overall file size for easier transfer over the Internet. RARLab, the company behind WinRAR, offers a free trial of the WinRAR software.

     Download the WinRAR installer from RARLab (see Resources). Save the file to your desktop.

     Double-click the downloaded file to start the WinRAR installer.

     Follow the on-screen instructions to install the WinRAR utility. Restart the computer after the installation completes. Once installed, right-click a .RAR file and select "Extract" to decompress the file.
