WinZip and WinRAR are both file-compression programs. What they do is
take single or multiple computer files and squeeze them into one smaller
file, which makes sending, downloading and transferring easier. There
are, however, some key differences.
-
-
One key difference is that WinRAR is a shareware program
that was independently developed, while WinZip is a proprietary program
that comes with every version of Windows. This means that the money used
to purchase each one goes to a different set of people.
-
A major functional difference is that WinRAR can compress
and decompress Zip files, while WinZIP can only compress and decompress
Zip files. WinRAR is the only program of the two that can work with RAR
files.

-
On the other hand, WinZip is substantially faster at
compressing than WinRAR. Compressing a video takes one-third the amount
of time with WinZip as it does with WinRAR, which makes WinZip a useful
option if you are pressed for time.
