Can You Stream iPad Contents to TV's

In our gadget-driven world, it's important for you to get the most out of your devices, and that includes streaming content from your iPad to your television screen. While this may have been complicated for other mobile devices in the past, the iPad makes it possible through several options, including cables and the wireless Apple TV.

  1. Hard-Wiring

    • While not free, you can opt to hardwire your iPad to your television set. Purchase an Apple Digital AV Adapter -- around $39 as of 2011 -- and connect it to the iPad. Connect an HDMI cable to the other end of the Apple Digital AV Adapter and then plug the free end of the HDMI cable into the HDMI port on your television set. Unfortunately, the iPad menus will show up on your television screen at 4-to-3 aspect ration. But video playback will appear in full wide-screen resolution.

    Incorporate Apple TV

    • Another option is to invest in Apple TV for a more robust way to stream content from your iPad to your television screen. The Apple TV device is a small black box with HDMI output that connects to your home network wirelessly or with an Ethernet cable. Get started by purchasing an Apple TV device for around $99, as of August 2011. Plug an HDMI cable into your TV or receiver and the other end into the Apple TV device. Connect the Apple TV to your home network. When watching videos, listening to music or viewing photos on your iPad, simply tap the "TV" button from the menu bar and tap "Apple TV." The content will stream via your network to the Apple TV device and then display on the TV screen.

    Space Saving Revolution

    • De-cluttering the home is an endeavor these days, and by streaming online content from your iPad to your television you can join the de-cluttering cause by effectively putting away your DVD and Blu-ray players and the associated discs that gather dust sitting around on shelves in your living room. Because your iPad can stream YouTube videos, Netlix movies, Apple TV video and many other types of video content, you'll never need to pull out those old discs again.

    Entertainment Cost Savings

    • It's always good to find cost savings, especially when it comes to entertainment. Once you begin streaming video content from your iPad to your television, you can almost stop purchasing movie discs all together. In some cases, you may be able to eliminate cable television from your monthly bill. Apple TV streams episodes of your favorite television series for $0.99 per episode, a cheaper solution than renting or cable television.
